Our Mission

To empower, educate, and uplift Black communities by ensuring that Black hair is understood, respected, and celebrated everywhere

A Story of Resilience, Community, and changing the narrative

Naomi Pinncok, Founder of How2Hair…101

Meet Naomi (call me Nay)

Owner-founder/CEO of How2Hair…101

In the heart of Huddersfield, a single mother of 2 beautiful black girls discovered her calling: to restore dignity, confidence, and accessibility through the art of hairstyling. After realising how damaging lack of representation can be to their self-worth, and how it can lead to racial stereotyping, bias and discrimination, she wanted to encourage love for every kink and coil.

The Challenge We Address

Black hair care education is often overlooked in mainstream beauty programs, schools, and workplaces, leaving a significant knowledge gap when it comes to caring for and understanding textured hair. Identity is key in forming a healthy relationship with self, however for black/mixed race children their hair can be a source of bias and discrimination.

Why How2Hair…101 Was Born

Through years of experience, Naomi witnessed recurring frustrations from friends and family in the textured hair community: lack of knowledge, difficulties on how to maintain textured hair, and difficulty accessing support. She realised the industry wasn't built to serve everyone equally, and was determined to tackle these issues.

Thus How2Hair…101 was born. We are a small team aiming to "bridge the gap of cultural differences 1 plait at a time" via interactive textured hair care workshops combining integrity, innovation, and empathy to meet the needs of a sometimes-overlooked category of people.

Our Target Audience

Our workshops are aimed at parent(s)/carer(s) of vulnerable black children (full and mixed) who:

  • • Are of a different ethnicity to their child
  • • Feel they lack the basic skills needed to maintain their child's hair
  • • Work in hospitals, foster homes, and other vulnerable spaces
  • • Want to help children form a positive sense of self and worth

Building a Movement, Not Just a Business

The vision for How2Hair…101 goes beyond hair styling—we are creating a movement that uplifts communities and breaks down barriers. We want to empower people and cater to a diverse overlooked community; bring like-minded people together to network and see they are not alone.

"We're creating something that will bridge the cultural gaps, fosters inclusivity, and changes lives." Together, with your help and attendance to our workshop, we can make textured hair care more accessible, inclusive, and impactful than ever before.

Empowering Marginalised Communities

Driven by her personal experience and a desire to make a difference, Nay launched How2Hair…101 offering services to individuals in shelters, hospitals, foster homes, and orphanages—spaces where self-care is often overlooked but deeply needed. Majorly funded by grants and community partnerships.

"I want to empower people, especially those who feel unseen or forgotten about in society."- Naomi Pinncok, Founder

Accessibility & Inclusion

To further support people, especially those with mobility issues, we deliver workshops both Face to Face and online to ensure everyone can access support and not feel so isolated. How2Hair's approach isn't just about hair—it's about building trust, community, and access.

Empowering Through Education
